‘ASHTRAYS FOR GOD’

It’s not only ‘singing,’ but it can be that.  It’s not only on Sunday, but it can be then.  It’s not defined by style or preference, but it can encompass many.  When you were young (maybe not so long ago) were you ever given a lump of clay and encouraged to make something?  Most of our parents were soon the proud recipients of an ashtray ‘just for them!’  Or maybe a one-of-a-kind paperweight for their desk to accompany the rock we painted the summer before.   Worship is kind of like that…An ashtray for God.  [Read more]

WORSHIP TEAM

We refer to the music, dramatic, media, and arts components as one ‘worship team’.  Sure, there are different rehearsal times and functions, but one heartbeat, one purpose, one voice to exalt the Name and Person of Christ.  The ‘Worship Team’ is as diverse as the individuals that are a part of it.  We strive to facilitate an atmosphere where those who gather to worship can express themselves in the many different ways God has enabled us.  Here follows a brief description of some of the specifics.  You can also look at the Worship Arts Covenant, which answers frequently asked questions; or download the Worship Team Application, which provides an opportunity for you to introduce yourself to us and for us to shed some light on what you can expect.  The best way to get involved, though, is to come—even just to check it out!

“21 days”

“21 Days” is the name of the Faith Worship Team.  It comes from the Book of Daniel, chapter 10, where Daniel mourned because of a vision given him. He set his mind to gain understanding and to humble himself before God. God heard Daniel and sent a response that first day, but God’s messenger was delayed in a spiritual battle for twenty-one days.  When he arrived, Daniel was still waiting and God was able to strengthen him and give him insight into the next things.  As we set our minds to gain understanding and to humble ourselves before God, when God responds, may we ever be found faithful, recognizing that we may not see all the factors, but that we can trust that God is at work, pointing us to His eternal purposes.

To serve in any of the following, click the “I want to serve” button under appropriate heading:

Band

…leads musically on Sunday mornings, as a part of many of the First Wednesday Night Worship Services, and when there is a musical component to special events at Faith or as we ‘go’ to Engage our community and the world.  Rehearsals are a part of the Worship Team rehearsals on Wednesday Nights from 6:30-9:15pm.  Any and all instrumentalists are welcome.  Email stephena@faithnc.org.

Ensemble

…is the vocal team that leads on Sunday mornings, as a part of many of the First Wednesday Night Worship Services, and when there is a musical component to special events at Faith or as we ‘go’ to Engage our community and the world.  Those interested will go through a vocal assessment and are asked to join the choir as vocal ensemble participation currently occurs on a rotational basis, whereas the choir sings weekly, thus allowing for continued exposure to the current music.  Email emily@faithnc.org.

Celebration Choir

…sings weekly as a part of the Sunday morning services, as a part of many of the First Wednesday Night Worship Services, and when there is a musical component to special events at Faith or as we ‘go’ to Engage our community and the world.  In addition, the choir presents special music at these gatherings, presents a Christmas Concert the Sunday night before Christmas, holds an annual concert in a local prison facility, plays a major role in our annual Easter Musical Theatre Production, and many members are active in leading in other musical opportunities at Faith.  Those interested will go through a vocal assessment (simply to discover vocal range and to discuss details regarding how we rehearse). Email emily@faithnc.org.

Dramatic Arts

The dramatic arts team presents drama sketches in select Sunday morning and Wednesday Night Services.  Some participate in script writing.  The team leads the Church in taking on larger dramatic events like the Easter Musical Theatre Production, Vacation Bible School Worship Rally, the Annual AnchorSoul Walk-Through drama (the week of Halloween), and events surrounding Christmas celebrations.  The dramatic arts team is also looked to as an artistic, creative, collaborating group at various times throughout the year.  Email liz@faithnc.org.

Media Arts

…covers video, computer tasks related to the music and sermon notes displayed on the screens in the Worship Center, audio, lighting, graphics, and construction of sets and props.  All of these come into play during productions.  Weekly, most participation centers on video, computer, and audio details. Email liz@faithnc.org.

Worship Dance

Seasonally, we use worship dance elements to enhance services and special event presentations.  What we present comes from who is participating (as far as skill and difficulty level).   Email Jessica Baker jjbakerlc07@yahoo.com.

THE GALLERY

If you’re an artist (be it painter, sculptor, graphic artist, just to name a few) you can display your work in Faith’s Gallery.  Located between the Main Foyer and KidzTown, the Gallery provides artists a place to express themselves and a place for the Body to be encouraged and challenged and to worship God through the many different means that He’s provided us to praise His Name.  Email michael@faithnc.org or liz@faithnc.org.

KIDZTOWN MUSIC

Every Sunday in KidzTown, our children “worship the Lord with gladness (and) come before Him with joyful songs” (Psalm 100:2).  The KidzTown Worship Team rehearses monthly and leads faithfully every week.  The KidzTown Choir rehearses on select Wednesday Nights and is a chance for children to learn songs of praise to share with our community at Christmas and Easter.  Over 100 children have been active participants of this ministry, and they continue to sing joyfully the message of Jesus!  Our prayer for KidzTown Music comes from 3 John 4.  “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”  Email emily@faithnc.org.

YOUTH BAND

Open to anyone High School and Middle School age, this band leads the youth in worship on Wednesday Nights and leads the entire Body during select Wednesday Night Worship Services.  Rehearsals are Sunday afternoons.  Members of the Faith Worship Team Band oversee rehearsals and are available to assist in ongoing ministry. THE ARTISTS RECLAMATION PROJECT

God is Creator and Innovator.  He is Purity and Beauty.  He is our Inspiration and Provision.  His presence with us and the power of His Word distinguish His people from all other people on the earth (Exodus 33).  Artistic expression carries with it a responsibility for the interaction implied in its creation and is intended for God’s glory and fame.  He is a covenant God and any vision to reclaim and reestablish art for the praise of His glory must include our children and grandchildren… what will He show us of Himself in the next 80 years?

‘Ashtrays for God’ (continued from top)

My parents didn’t need an ashtray—they didn’t smoke.  Even if they did, they probably wouldn’t have used it (it was more of a ‘show piece’).  God doesn’t need an ashtray.  Even though He is a Consuming Fire Who led Israel in the form of a Pillar of Cloud and a Pillar of Fire…still, He doesn’t smoke.  My parents displayed the ashtray I gave them because I gave it to them.  I didn’t give it to them in hopes they would start smoking—it wasn’t about them ‘needing it.’  I gave it to them because it was the prize, it was the fruit.  After all the work and ability and time I’d put into making it, they were the ones I wanted to give it to.  It was the best I had to offer.  I must report that the ashtray is no longer on display…it has been replaced over the years with newer ‘offerings’—some even usable.

God is worthy of the best we have to give Him.  Our best may appear to us like an ashtray for God, but for Him it is about who it’s from and about being a Father worthy of receiving the best we have to offer Him.  All of the work and ability and time we put into making it can never be about Him ‘needing’ it.  He deserves it!  “God is spirit and His worshipers must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).  We worship the Living God in relationship.  So whether you sing, dance, build, sew, cook, administrate, write, crunch numbers, drive, teach, or whatever it is you do—do it unto the Lord.  “For I am a Great King, says the Lord of hosts, and My Name will be honored before the nations” (Malachi 1:14).  He will be worshipped regardless.  If we don’t worship Him, the rocks will cry out (Luke 19:40)…but He’d rather receive worship from those He’s made in His image—from those He created to have a relationship with Him—from us.  Therefore, be encouraged to worship Him through every facet of your life.  Seek to fear Him rightly.  Stand in awe of who He is.  Acknowledge His worthiness.  Worship Him in the splendor of His holiness, and, when we have opportunity to gather corporately as the Body of Christ—be it Sunday mornings or whenever—let us worship Him together in song, through our testimonies, and in His Word—ascribing to Him the glory due His Name; living for the praise of His glory!
